AAPC Exam Results: Where to Check and When They Post
Your AAPC exam results appear in your AAPC account. Most post within 7–10 business days after you test; CIC results can take 10–15 business days. (AAPC results policy)
To check your result:
- Sign in at aapc.com.
- Click your name in the upper-right corner and choose Courses and Exams.
- Select the title and date of the exam you took.
- Click your score, or View Score, to see your result and your Areas of Study breakdown.
AAPC's help pages also call this area MyAAPC › Exams. Either way, open the exam itself, not a course record. (Access steps · Areas of Study steps)
Result held up? AAPC releases results only to an active membership. If yours has lapsed, the result waits until you renew. (Membership and results policy)
How long do AAPC exam results take?
The 7–10 business day window starts when you complete the exam, and AAPC says it can shift with exam volume and time of year. Results from a testing center follow the same window and land in the same Courses and Exams area as remote exams. CIC is the named exception at 10–15 business days. (General window · Testing center results · CIC exception)
Business days skip weekends, so the real wait is longer than it sounds. For a Monday–Friday count with no holidays or closures, ten business days is two full work weeks. If you tested on a Saturday and count Monday as day 1, business day 10 is the second Friday after your exam. CIC's upper end of 15 business days adds another full work week under those assumptions. This is a calendar illustration, not a promised result date.
Two things that help while you wait:
- AAPC emails you when your result posts. After a CPC pass, you'll also see a pop-up the next time you log in. (Notification · Pass pop-up)
- The My AAPC app has an exam tracker that shows when your exam is in grading and when results are ready. If you can't find your result in the app, use the website steps above. (App guidance)
If someone who tested the same day got their result first, that doesn't tell you whether you passed or failed. AAPC's help center describes different processing times; contact Support if the applicable window has passed. (Status and timing guidance)
What your status means and what to do next
Find the row that matches what you see. A processing status is not a pass or a fail. If no status is shown yet and you're still within the published window, check your email and exam record again later.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| In transit or Received | Your exam is being processed. Grading hasn't finished. | Wait. Check your email and exam record now and then. |
| Grading | Your exam is being scored and validated. This doesn't mean a result is minutes away, and a long stay here doesn't signal a pass or a fail. | Wait out the full window for your exam. |
| Pending, or your membership has expired | AAPC requires active membership when results release. "Pending" can show when membership is inactive or awaiting renewal. | Check your membership status. Renew if it lapsed. If it's active and the result is still held, contact AAPC Support. |
| An email says results are ready, but you can't find them | You may be looking at a course record or a different exam attempt. | Open Courses and Exams and select the exam title and date that match the email. Still missing? Contact Support. |
| You can see a score but no breakdown | AAPC puts Areas of Study inside your exam details. | Click the score or View Score. If no breakdown appears, ask Support for help. |
| No result after the published window (up to 10 business days; 15 for CIC) | You're past AAPC's published window. | Contact AAPC Support with the details listed below. |
| Fail | AAPC has posted a failing result. | Read the breakdown, then check what your voucher still includes. See If you didn't pass. |
| Pass, but you're confused by CPC-A or the certificate | Apprentice status and certificate mailing are separate from your passing result. | See If you passed. |
| Your old result link opens the AAPC home page | AAPC says older result links can stop working. | Contact AAPC Customer Care with your name, member ID if available, exam name, and approximate exam date. |

Save a copy once your result posts. AAPC warns that results may not be retrievable after a long time has passed. Print or screenshot your exam details page. (Retention note)
Before you contact AAPC
Have these ready so Support can find your record quickly:
- Your full name and AAPC member ID, if available
- The exact exam name, such as CPC or CIC
- Your exam date, and whether you tested remotely or at a testing center
- The status you see now and when you last checked
- The email address on your AAPC account
- Any confirmation or "results ready" email you received
- A short description of the problem, including any technical issue during the exam and any existing case number
Contact AAPC Support: call 800-626-2633, email info@aapc.com, or use live chat on aapc.com. (Contact options) Support can look into a delay or access problem, but it won't read your score to you over the phone. (Results policy)
How to read your score and Areas of Study
For the CPC exam, you pass with 70% or higher — at least 70 of 100 questions correct. (CPC passing score) Other AAPC exams can have different question totals, so check your exam's own page on aapc.com rather than reusing the CPC numbers. (Exam lengths)
For CPC, your overall score decides pass or fail. The Areas of Study breakdown shows your performance in the reported areas. It's there to show you what to review, not to rebuild your score. (Areas of Study)
Don't average your area percentages. When areas contain different numbers of questions, their percentages carry different weights. Here's an illustration with made-up, nonoverlapping area sizes and equally weighted questions, using CPC's 70% passing mark:
| Area | Questions | Correct | Area score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Area A | 30 | 24 | 80% |
| Area B | 10 | 9 | 90% |
| Area C | 60 | 36 | 60% |
| Total | 100 | 69 | 69% — not a pass |
The average of the three area scores is 76.7%, which looks like a pass. The actual total in this example is 69 out of 100. These numbers are illustrative, not AAPC's actual area sizes. Use your posted overall result; this example does not establish how AAPC's reported areas combine. Rounded area percentages alone do not give you exact missed-question counts.
If you didn't pass
A failing result is a map of what to fix. Here's how to use it.
- Rank your weak areas by questions lost when reliable counts are available. Start where you dropped the most questions. If your report gives only area percentages, use them to identify weak topics; don't infer exact missed-question counts from rounded percentages.
- Ask whether time was the problem. If you rushed or left questions at the end, practice pacing as hard as content.
- Practice under real conditions. Do full-length, timed practice with only the materials your exam permits on test day. Use fresh practice questions, not ones you've memorized.
- Book the retake when your timed practice is steady above the passing mark, not just on the first open date.
This is editorial study guidance. Practice percentages track performance on those practice sets; they do not establish readiness or guarantee a pass.
How your next attempt works
- It depends on what you bought. AAPC sells 1-attempt and 2-attempt vouchers. Not every purchase includes a free retake, and promotional packages follow their own terms. (Retake options · Attempt options)
- If your voucher includes a second attempt, it becomes available automatically after your failed first result releases. You schedule it through Meazure Learning, AAPC's scheduling partner, the same way you booked the first. (Second-attempt scheduling)
- If the second attempt isn't showing, confirm your first result has fully processed, allow a little time, then contact Support. (Retake troubleshooting)
- Watch the voucher clock. AAPC vouchers must be used within one year of the purchase date, or they're forfeited. Check your original offer terms and your voucher's expiry. Your purchase date is under Purchases in your account. (Voucher validity)
- No attempt left? You can buy a new voucher when you're ready.
Can you appeal the score? AAPC's results-timing article says scores go through grading and validation before they're final; that article does not set out an appeal or regrade procedure. If you believe there is a scoring or processing error, ask AAPC Support what review is available for your case. If something went wrong during the exam itself, such as a remote-proctoring crash, report it to AAPC Support. AAPC reviews technical issues case by case, and an issue doesn't automatically earn a free retake. (Timing and validation · Technical issues)
If you passed
Congratulations. Here's what happens next.
What does CPC-A mean?
If you pass the CPC before meeting AAPC's experience or accepted-credit requirements, you receive CPC-A. The "A" means apprentice status. It has nothing to do with how high you scored. You remove it later by meeting one of AAPC's accepted experience or credit routes. Xtern experience counts for the time actually worked, not automatically for a full year. (Apprentice status · Xtern experience credit)
When does the certificate arrive?
AAPC mails a physical certificate after you pass. There is no downloadable or PDF version of a certification certificate. (Certificates and credentials)
- It usually arrives within 2–4 weeks in the U.S. International delivery can take up to 6–8 weeks.
- It goes by USPS, without tracking, to the address on your account at the time you passed. If you moved after passing, it still goes to the old address, and AAPC can't mail certificates to PO boxes.
- AAPC doesn't email you when it ships. If it hasn't arrived after the delivery window, call or chat with AAPC. International members email Internationalcertificates@aapc.com.
The mailed certificate is not the same as a course-completion certificate. Course certificates are downloadable from your account.
How do I prove my credential before the certificate arrives?
- Download your member ID card. Click your name, choose Membership, then Download ID Card. It shows your name, credentials, and renewal date. (Member ID card)
- Point an employer to AAPC's Credential Verification tool. It looks you up by last name plus member ID or email. It confirms your credential status, not your exam score.
Keep your membership active. AAPC requires an active membership to maintain your certification. (Membership policy) If you bought a 2-attempt voucher and passed on the first try, the unused attempt can't be moved to a different exam. (Second-attempt transfer)
Quick answers
Can I see which questions I got wrong?
AAPC's results show your overall score and scores for the reported Areas of Study. The public help instructions do not promise a question-by-question answer review. (Score breakdown instructions)
I passed, but the credential isn't on my profile.
Check that your membership is active. If your membership came through an employer's corporate plan, confirm you're still on it. If both check out, contact AAPC Support. (Missing credentials)
Do I need the paper certificate to start a coding job?
Ask the employer which proof it requires. Your member ID card and the Credential Verification tool show your current credential status. (Proof of credentials · Credential Verification)
